After Israel launched what it calls “Operation Pillar of Defense” to protect its citizens from sporadic Hamas and other militant rocket attacks in the southern part of the country, its “targeted killing” of terrorists also ended up killing two Palestinian children, one of whom was reportedly the 11 month old son of a BBC reporter.
Hamas, in retribution for the Israeli attacks, then launched at least 245 rockets into Israel, according to CNN. 3 Israelis were killed and 4 were wounded when one of the rockets struck an apartment building.
And by now Israel has made, in response, at least 140 airstrikes on what it calls “terror sites” in Gaza. As happens with most airstrikes in populated areas, innocent people, including children, will be killed. Sending Israeli troops into Gaza, as happened in 2008, is also a possibility.
